The Katherine Dunham Dance Company begins its residency at Southeast Missouri State University Monday. The St. Louis-based company will remain in residence through Feb. 13, providing workshops, demonstrations and lectures both on campus and off. The Katherine Dunham Dance Company begins its residency at Southeast Missouri State University Monday.

The St. Louis-based company will remain in residence through Feb. 13, providing workshops, demonstrations and lectures both on campus and off.

The programs are under the supervision of Ruby Streate, artistic director of the Katherine Dunham Museum. Many will involve master percussionists James Belk and Gerald Williams.

The keynote lecture, which will be made either by Katherine Dunham or Ruby Streate, will be at 1 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 8, at Academic Auditorium.

The primary performance for the university and community will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 12, at Academic Auditorium.

Unless noted, all programs are free and open to the public.

Monday

11:11:50 a.m.-- Master class in Dunham technique, Parker Dance Studio.

12:45-1:45 p.m. -- Public school workshop, grades 4-6, May Greene School.

2-3 p.m. -- Grades 1-3, May Greene School.

7-9:30 p.m. -- Katherine Dunham in Hollywood: "Stormy Weather," Dempster Hall, Room 109.

Tuesday

9:30-10:45 a.m. -- The Athletic Artistry of Dunham, a lecture/demonstration/discussion, Parker Dance Studio.

2-2:50 p.m. -- Master class in Dunham technique, Parker Dance Studio.

4-5 p.m. -- Dunham technique, Head Start kids, Civic Center.

5-6 p.m. -- Dunham technique, for ages 7-12, Civic Center.

6-7 p.m. -- Dunham technique, teens and adults, Civic Center.

7 p.m. -- Potluck dinner reception for Ruby Streate and percussionists, Civic Center.

Wednesday

10:10:50 a.m. -- Master class in Dunham technique, Parker Dance studio.

11:11:50 p.m. -- Lecture/discussion of Dunham technique's role in dance history, Parker 201 classroom.

12-1:15 p.m. -- Common Hour percussion workshop and lunch (bring any kind of percussion instruments), Parker Dance Studio.

3-5 p.m. -- Cultural Preservation of African-American Dance in the Twentieth Century, a lecture/presentation and reception, Kent Library Little Theatre.

6-7 p.m. -- Open dance club master class in Dunham technique, Parker Dance Studio.

7-8 p.m. -- Open rehearsal, DanceXpressions, Ahrai, Parker Dance Studio.

Thursday

9:30-10:45 a.m. -- Master class in Dunham technique, Parker Dance Studio.

12:30-1:30 p.m. -- Public school workshop, grades 1-3, Washington School.

6-8 p.m. -- Open viewing rehearsal of company, DanceXpressions, Ahrai, Parker Dance Studio.

Wednesday, Feb. 11

12-1:15 p.m. -- Common Hour open rehearsal with Ruby Streate, drummers and DanceXpressions, Academic Hall Auditorium.

1:30-3 p.m. -- College of Education dance workshops for children 3-5, Parker Dance Studio.

6-8 p.m. -- Dance club master class in drumming and rehearsals, Parker Dance Studio.

Thursday, Feb. 12

9-11 a.m. -- College of Education children's program, Parker Dance Studio.

12:30-1:20 p.m. -- Master class in Dunham technique, Parker Dance Studio.

7-8:30 p.m. -- University and community performance, Academic Auditorium. Admission is $2 for adults.

Friday, Feb. 13,

6-7 p.m. -- Community performance, Franklin School. Admission $1 for adults.
