Drury University will hold an open house May 26 to determine if enough interest exists to establish a satellite campus in Jackson, according to a news release Tuesday from the Jackson Chamber of Commerce.
The release said a representative from the university's College of Graduate and Continuing Studies will be on site from 3 to 5 p.m. at the chamber offices at 125 E. Main St. in Jackson to answer questions about higher education needs in the area. The representative will also discuss classes that could be offered.
"They have been following the continuing education process here in Jackson and Cape Girardeau," said Jackson Chamber of Commerce director Brian Gerau. "They're seeing if there's a need in the area and to ask the community what they think about a potential provider of classes."
Attempts to reach Drury University officials for comment were unsuccessful.
Gerau said talks between the city and Drury University have been ongoing since January.
"It's one of those things where there has been relationship building and back and forth between both sides," Gerau said.
With its main campus in Springfield, Mo., Drury University has nine satellite campuses in the state. Founded in 1883, the university's website lists its enrollment of undergraduate and graduate students at 3,545.
