The Early Prevention Impacts Community Group is holding a prescription drug take-back event in Jackson on Saturday.

Anyone who needs to dispose of unused or expired prescription medications, can take them to the Jackson Police and Fire Department from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Cape Girardeau Police Department has a permanent drop off box for prescription medications that residents can use in the front lobby of the station. EPIC was going to hold an event Saturday in the West Park Mall parking lot in Cape Girardeau but it has been canceled due to weather considerations.

EPIC reports that more than 7 million Americans currently abuse prescription drugs, according to the 2009 Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration's national survey on drug use and health.
