The city of Cape Girardeau will be performing repairs on Independence Street beginning next week, according to spokeswoman Nicolette Brennan in a news release. Weather permitting, crews will begin milling and asphalt overlay on Independence Street on Tuesday, with flaggers guiding traffic. Cross streets will also be affected as the work passes each intersection. Parking will not be permitted on either side of Independence Street, from Sprigg to Water streets, until the work is completed. The public is urged to use alternate routes. If it is necessary to use Independence street, drivers are urged to use caution and follow the direction of the flaggers in the work area.
