Driver runs car into Rhodes 101 on North Sprigg

A 16-year-old driver crashed his car into the Rhodes 101 Stop at 1126 N. Sprigg Saturday night, causing the convenience store to close for several hours while broken glass was cleaned up, police said.

Police officer Freddie Hill said the man pulled into the parking lot at 8:40 p.m. and apparently was unable to stop. Hill said police were still investigating and no further details were available.

Rhodes co-owner Jim Maurer, reached at his home, said he had not heard about the incident yet. An employee reached at the store said at about 10:15 p.m. the 24-hour store would likely reopen sometime after midnight.

The employee said the accident broke a lot of glass, knocked some bricks free and knocked over some racks. No one was hurt in the incident.
