A Missouri man has been charged with a string of felony offenses related to a Monday morning police pursuit over a stolen car.
Anthony M. Brown, 24, now faces charges of leaving the scene of a motor accident, assault on law enforcement with a deadly weapon or dangerous instrument, tampering with a motor vehicle, resisting arrest and first-degree property damage.
A passenger in the car driven by Brown, Walter Lindell Jr., 24, was cited for not wearing a seat belt, said Cpl. Adam Glueck, spokesman for the police department.
Brown listed a Cape Girardeau address but is also known to reside in Sikeston, Glueck said.
The chase began during a traffic stop at Pacific and Morgan Oak streets. Police pursued the suspected stolen car through Cape Girardeau, ending at the Town Plaza shopping center.
The driver of the suspected stolen vehicle drove behind the Town Plaza Cinema building, where he rammed the police department's animal control truck -- which had joined the effort to stop the car -- as it rounded the corner. The driver then jumped out of the car while it was in gear, and the car went backward and hit another police cruiser.
Brown is at the Cape Girardeau County Jail on a $30,000 cash-only bond.
