Eight individuals received top recognition Saturday night at the 37th annual awards banquet of Southeast Missouri State University's two theater groups -- the Black Mask Honorary Dramatic Society and the University Players.
The awards, endowed by two former Cape Girardeau business women, Jane Barnett and the late Elaine "Tommie" Davis, consist of small sterling silver bowls for the individuals and an engraved plaque for the trophy case in the main corridor of Grauel Language Arts building.
Winners were:
Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role -- Marty Strohmeyer as Ernie in "Rumors."
Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role -- Amy Jo Diebold as Polly in "Threepenny Opera."
Best Actor in a Leading Role -- Dan Akre as Lenny in "Rumors."
Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role -- Amy Montfort as Lucy in "Threepenny Opera."
Outstanding Service for a Single Production -- Anne Sturtevant and Jwu Ding for Lighting Design for "Everyman."
Distinguished Service for an Entire Season -- Don Marler.
Unsung Hero -- Shannon Davis.
