The Independence Street/Silver Springs Road intersection will close to traffic starting Monday morning, to allow for completion of a crossroad drainage structure.

Work is expected to last three to four weeks, weather permitting, Cape Girardeau city officials said.

Businesses and residences near the area still will be able to access their facilities via Pind Wood Lane to Independence, according to a city news release.

The road closure for this project is being done simultaneously with the nearby Independence Street roundabout construction project to take advantage of reduced traffic, officials said.

Drivers are asked to use caution in all work zones and consider using an alternate route, officials said. Detour signs will be posted.
