Draft of city's comprehensive plan debuts at joint meeting

The future of Cape Girar-deau will be suggested during tonight's joint meeting of the city council and the city's planning and zoning commission.

A draft of a comprehensive plan will be presented by Carol Gossett and Surabhi Barbhaya of Arcturis, a St. Louis-based design and consulting firm hired by the city.

The plan includes results of a community survey and other research covering city traffic patterns, water, sewer, housing and demographics as well as parks and recreation facilities.

Martha Brown has been coordinating responses to consultant questions through the city's planning office.

She said the evening will include advice on a 20-year plan for city development, including a suggested tax plan to encourage downtown redevelopment.

"We want to make sure people know this is a draft the consultants are presenting," she said. "

The planning and zoning commission will hold a hearing on it and the public will have plenty of opportunity to respond to the plan."

She said the date for the planning and zoning hearing was not set, but that copies of the recommendations would be available at city hall or the library for residents to read.

The meeting starts at 5:30 p.m. today at the Osage Community Centre, 1625 N. Kings-highway.
