Dr. Missy Phegley of the Cape Girardeau Public Schools Board of Education was honored at the MSBA Summer Summit for earning advanced and master certifications, showcasing her dedication to ongoing education and school governance.

Cape Girardeau Public Schools Board of Education member Dr. Missy Phegley was recognized at the Missouri School Boards Association’s Summer Summit for receiving the organization’s advanced and master certification.

According to a news release from the MSBA, a candidate is required to complete mandatory annual refresher training, an additional 12 hours of training, read two school board-related books and write a brief reflection paper relating to their study to receive advanced certification. To earn the master certification, a candidate must complete another 12 hours of training, read two more books, attend at least two MSBA meetings during the year and write a second reflection paper connecting their studies to their school district’s governance practices.

Phegley has served on Cape’s school board since 2020 and was board president during the 2023-24 school year.

The MSBA recognizes local school board members who pursue “additional learning opportunities beyond the legally required school board training.”
