The start of spring also will bring the unveiling of Cape Girardeau's second public outdoor exhibit.

On April 3, seven new sculptures will replace those that have been on display along Broadway since last April. These new pieces also will be on display for a year.

The 2015 Cape Girardeau Outdoor Sculpture Exhibit was juried by the Public Art Committee, which consists of representatives from the Arts Council of Southeast Missouri, Old Town Cape, Cape Girardeau Area Chamber of Commerce and the city. Revitalization and boosting regional art activities are two of the driving factors behind the committee's decision to host the exhibit, according to a news release from the arts council. Funding for the exhibit was provided by the city of Cape Girardeau Parks and Recreation Department, Cape Girardeau Convention and Visitors Bureau and Old Town Cape, the news release said.

The seven artists selected for the exhibition are:

  • Kurt Dyrhaug, Beaumont, Texas
  • James Johnson, Charleston, Illinois

  • Bounnak Thammavong, Swisher, Iowa

The pieces will be unveiled at a special reception and kickoff event at 6 p.m. April 3 at the Vasterling Suites Courtyard at the southwest corner of Broadway and Fountain Street.
