Directional coronary atherectomy, first performed in 1985, restores flow to clogged vessels by dislodging and then completely removing plaque from the wall of the vessel.

Chapman has performed the new procedure at Southeast Missouri Hospital's Regional Heart Center since last summer. The first procedure performed at the heart center here was the first to be performed outside a research hospital setting.

Chapman is associated with Cardiovascular Consultants of Cape Girardeau Inc.
