Three Cape Girardeau residents involved with recycling and energy-conservation issues will be among those honored by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources Wednesday in St. Louis.
Doug Kaminskey, the city's environmental services coordinator; Dan Muser, Parks and Recreation Department director; and Glenda Quinn of the Cape Girardeau County League of Women Voters all will be recognized for their volunteer efforts during the DNR's Paper to Trees campaign earlier this year.
The Cape Girardeau recipients will join others to be honored at a DNR brunch celebrating Energy Awareness Month.
The program, sponsored by the department's Division of Energy and the Environmental Improvement and Energy Resources Authority (EIERA), will begin at 9 a.m. at the Holiday Inn Downtown.
Awards also will be presented at the brunch to three members of the Missouri General Assembly in recognition of their support of energy legislation in the state. The recipients are Rep. Patrick Dougherty and Sens. Francis Flotron and Wayne Goode.
The Energy Leadership Award, given for leadership and innovation in the field of energy, will be presented to Kathy Murphy, a teacher at the St. Anthony School in High Ridge, and Earl K. Dille, president of Union Electric Co.
The keynote speaker for the program will be James L. Wolf, executive director of the Alliance to Save Energy in Washington, D.C. The topic of his speech will be "Future Energy Directions."
The brunch also will feature a debate between Laura Barrett, executive director of the Missouri Public Interest Research Group, and Mike Sykuta of Washington University on "Corporate Average Fuel Efficiency Standards."
The brunch will conclude with a tour of the Missouri Botanical Gardens Climatron reglazing project.
