Cape Girardeau public schools' technology department will move to a new building after the first of the year, said Neil Glass, assistant superintendent of administrative services.
The school board authorized superintendent James Welker to negotiate a contract with Triple B Development Corp. to lease a building at 401 N. Clark Ave. and to execute the contract on behalf of the board during a closed session Monday night, according to information released Thursday by the district.
The technology department shares space with the Alternative Education Center and central administration.
The new building contains 2,700 square feet, and rent will be $2,296 a month, Glass said.
Plans are to add programs to the alternative education center and, with that, add to faculty or staff, Glass said.
He said a wall will be built to house the server racks but "other than that, the office space is pretty much ready to go."
The building will be used for storage "right away," Glass said.
Eight technology department members will make the move to the building and will formulate a plan for the move, Glass said.
