MALDEN -- The executive director of the Bootheel Regional Planning and Economic Development Commission is resigning June 30 to accept a similar position in southwest Georgia.

Dan Bollinger will become executive director of the Southwest Georgia Regional Development Center in Camilla, Ga.

Bollinger has served as the Bootheel Regional Planning Commission's executive director for 11 years. He was appointed to the position in 1978 and served until 1982. He returned to the commission as executive director in 1987.

In that position Bollinger has been a familiar sight at many municipal meetings in Scott City and Chaffee when he briefed city officials on the on-going municipal projects and grant applications the commission helped prepare.

During that time Bollinger also served as chairman of the Bootheel Solid Waste District and was instrumental in the formation of the Southeast Missouri Water District and served on the Missouri Commission on Intergovernmental Cooperation.

Bollinger said: "Although the position in southwest Georgia is a tremendous opportunity, this was a very tough decision. I will always call the Bootheel home. I would like to thank the commission and particularly the executive committee members, past and present, for their support over the years.

Bollinger, a native of Scott County, is a graduate of the University of Missouri. He served two terms as president of the Chaffee Chamber of Commerce and is a past president of the Chaffee Industrial Development Authority.

The Bootheel Regional Planning and Economic Development Commission serves the six counties and 63 cities of the Bootheel in planning development and administration of state and federal programs. It is headquartered in Malden.
