Local veterans who served in the Vietnam War are invited to attend a dinner and dance commemorating the 50th anniversary of that conflict Wednesday evening.
The event will begin with dinner at 6 p.m., and live music will follow at 7 p.m at the American Legion hall in uptown Jackson.
The event is being hosted by the American Legion. Organizer Dave Hitt — who is a veteran himself — said the purpose is to pay respect to those who served.
“A lot of the [Vietnam] veterans, they didn’t get the recognition they deserved when they came home back then,” he said. “So that’s what we’re trying to do now, is give them that recognition.”
Veterans are encouraged to bring their spouses or a significant other, and family members of veterans who have died are encouraged to attend with a photograph of the deceased to take part in a recognition ceremony during the event.
