Former secretary of defense Dick Cheney will be the featured speaker June 22 at a fund-raising breakfast in Cape Girardeau to benefit the Missouri Futures Fund of the state Republican Party.
The breakfast will begin at 7:30 a.m. at Drury Lodge. Tickets are $50 each.
The futures fund was organized by the Missouri Republican State Committee and U.S. Sen. Christopher Bond to raise money primarily to finance GOP legislative races in 1994. This is one of several fund-raising events being held around the state this year to support that effort.
Bond and 8th District U.S. Rep. Bill Emerson will join Cheney at the fund-raiser. Cheney will also be accompanied by his wife Lynne Cheney, a former head of the National Endowment for the Humanities.
Prior to his appointment as defense secretary by former President George Bush, Cheney served as a member of Congress from Wyoming. Before that he served as chief of staff to former President Gerald Ford.
Cheney is often mentioned as a potential Republican candidate for president in 1996.
Information on tickets is available by contacting Mel Kasten at 335-7864.
