A diamond ring was reported stolen to the police after its owner left it at a Cape Girardeau tanning salon.

A woman went into the Sun and Tan Tanning Salon, 421 Broadway, around 9 a.m. Saturday. After her visit, she realized she left two rings in a salon room, and only one was later found, according to police officer Daryl Ferris.

She reported the missing ring Tuesday to the police, who were investigating it as a theft, Ferris said. According to the woman, the missing ring was worth about $750, he said.

Sun and Tan had about 22 customers between when the woman visited and when she called the salon about her missing rings, salon employee Jennifer Lyons said.

While salon employees clean the beds and pick up any personal items left between customer visits, the found ring was on the floor under a chair and would not have been located unless one had actively looked for it, Lyons said.

"They shouldn't take off their diamond rings or their wedding bands," she said. If a customer does want to remove their jewelry, she suggested putting them in a shoe.

No arrests had been made in the theft, Ferris said.
