SCOTT CITY -- Scott City High football coach Terry Flannigan did not mince words when describing Dexter's dominating 26-6 victory over the host Rams Friday night. "We didn't play very good, but I think Dexter had a lot to do with it," said Flannigan. "They just came in and took care of business. We arm tackled and didn't block a sole.

We just couldn't do much of anything."

Dexter grabbed an early lead and never relinquished it as both teams are now 1-1.

The Bearcats piled up 211 yards on the ground while Scott City was limited to just 59 yards rushing, 46 of those coming on one play. The Rams added 76 yards through the air from quarterback Lance Amick, who completed just four of 13 passes.

Scott City's only touchdown came on a 46-yard run by Travis Burger in the third quarter that sliced Dexter's lead to 14-6.

Dexter took a 6-0 first-quarter led on an 11-yard run by Mike Backfisch. That's the way things stood at halftime.

T.J. Riddle scored on a 26-yard run in the third quarter as the Bearcats went ahead 14-0.

After Scott City made things interesting on Burger's long run, Dexter iced the victory with two fourth-quarter touchdowns, on a 30-yard fumble return by Cody Pinkley and a 10-yard run by Josh Swindle.

The Rams will return to action next Friday night at Fredericktown.
