DEXTER, Mo. — A 47-year-old Dexter man suffered severe injuries Monday night when he apparently lost control of the bicycle he was riding and hit a concrete drive, the Daily Statesman reported. Donald Glantz Jr. was taken by ambulance at about 9:30 p.m. to be airlifted from the local airport to the Elvis Presley Trauma Center in Memphis, Tenn., where he remains in critical condition. According to family members, Glantz suffered head trauma in the accident that required surgery Tuesday. There were no eyewitnesses to the accident, but police surmise that Glantz, while headed east in the 700 block of Chautaqua Street, ran off the edge of the roadway and his front bicycle tire struck the edge of a concrete driveway, throwing him off of the bike and onto the concrete. Dexter police chief Paul Haubold said, "There is no evidence at this time that the bicycle came into contact with a motor vehicle. We continue to investigate the accident, but nothing points to this being an instance of hit and run."
