A portion of North Main Street will be closed Thursday as construction begins at the Isle of Capri casino site in Cape Girardeau.
Beginning at 9 a.m. Thursday, North Main Street will be closed from Olive Street to south of Mill Street, according an announcement from the Isle Casino Cape Girardeau planning and construction team.
This portion of the road will be closed for approximately six months while crews work to reroute North Main Street around the casino site.
For local traffic traveling northbound, the detour route will go from Park/North Street, along Sprigg Street and then down Bertling Street back to North Main. Southbound local traffic will travel in the reverse.
Commercial traffic will detour along Sprigg Street to Lexington Avenue.
Fronabarger Concreters of Oak Ridge was named as general contractor last week on the Main Street relocation project. Other local subcontractors working on the project are Apex Paving, Cotner Electric, Nip Kelly Equipment, Monroe Plumbing and Road Runner Safety.
"We anticipate the closure to last into the fall and look forward to working closely with these local companies as we prepare to begin actual construction of the casino facility over the summer," said Richard Meister, Isle vice president of design and construction.
