The Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education has received an $83,827 grant to provide continued funding for the Missouri Assessment Program (MAP) regional office at Southeast Missouri State University.
MAP is among the professional development opportunities created by Senate Bill 380. This law, known as The Outstanding Schools Act, mandated several new programs and policies aimed at improving Missouri's public schools. Among them is a revised statewide assessment system designed to determine the degree to which students are proficient in certain areas.
Pam Wilgus is the regional facilitator of the MAP office and coordinates the grant award. Wilgus trains teachers in the assessment of students' work and coordinates workshops to train the increasing number of teachers who will develop, teach and assess students using performance-based assessment. Wilgus has 19 years experience teaching in middle school and high school in Missouri and Arizona.
The MAP regional office at Southeast serves schools in Bollinger, Butler, Cape Girardeau, Carter, Dunklin, Iron, Madison, Mississippi, New Madrid, Pemiscot, Perry, Ripley, St. Francois, Ste. Genevieve, Scott, Stoddard and Wayne counties.
The office is housed in the College of Education on the Southeast campus in the Southeast Regional Professional Development Center.
