John Summers Sr., born about 1740 in Scotland, came to New Madrid, Mo., with Col. George Morgan to settle that area. Records from Louis Houck state that Summers and some sons had settled in Cape Girardeau.

Summers arrived in Pennsylvania in 1784 and subsequently brought his family to New Madrid. They later arrived in Cape Girardeau, settling on Hubble Creek between Jackson and Gordonville where the Summers Cemetery is now. The cemetery grounds need cleaning up and some headstones straightened.
