While Cape Girardeau voters were deciding on the repeal of an urban deer hunting ordinance, voters in two other Cape Girardeau County towns were decided on bond and tax issues.

In Delta, voters chose not to approve the $1.5 million bond issue that would have combined and improved the city's waterworks and sewage systems in a 20-26 vote. Brian Strickland, consulting engineer for the city, previously said upgrading the city's sewage system was not a matter of "if" but "when," due to conflicts with Missouri Department of Natural Resources regulations.

The Gordonville proposition to impose a half-cent sales tax to raise revenue for the town's wastewater system did pass, 67-14. Since the new wastewater system's construction three years ago, the city has been fighting bankruptcy to pay back a $1.5 million loan from the Department of Natural Resources. City officials have estimated this new tax could bring in as much as $16,000 a year to go toward the city's payments.

Cape Girardeau citizens voted 1,485-1,279 to repeal the ordinance that allowed deer-hunting within city limits. The ordinance was narrowly approved by the Cape Girardeau City Council last July and has been a point of contention throughout the city.

Georganne P. Syler, Michael Wulfers and Emily Tuschoff Collins were elected to serve on the Cape Girardeau County Public Health Center board of trustees for a four-year term. Patricia L. Ray ran unopposed for a two-year term.
