The city of Delta will host a public hearing at 7 p.m. Wednesday to discuss new fees for water and sewer service.

It has been years since a rate increase, according to city officials.

The ordinance being considered would set charges at $13.37, plus $1.46 per 1,000 gallons of water used. One homeowner said his average water bill is about $6 per month, which he said is a typical rate for most residential customers in Delta. The new rate proposed for sewer service is $5.65 and $1.15 for each 1,000 gallons of water used.

The changes were part of a recommendation by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, to help the city adequately fund the system.

The current sewer system was installed in 1976; the water system was upgraded in 1984.

Delta City Hall is at 211 E. State St.
