Cape Girardeau County sheriff’s deputies on Monday released the name of Lonnie Eugene Masters, 45, of Delta, who was run over Saturday night by his wife after he threatened to kill her and their child, according to a sheriff’s department news release.

Deputies received a report of a domestic incident about 6 p.m. Saturday at a residence on County Road 256.

After they arrived, they learned Masters had abducted his wife and child and was driving around the area, according to the news release.

Masters threatened to kill his wife and child and then himself, the release stated.

Masters returned home, and the wife escaped into a different vehicle, according to the release.

Before Masters could shoot her, she ran him down in the car she drove, the release stated.

The woman was being treated at a hospital for injuries sustained during the assault, according to the release.

Cape Girardeau County Cororner John Clifton said an autopsy was performed Monday, but he had not received the report about a cause of death for Masters.

Information about the incident will be forwarded to the Cape Girardeau County Prosecuting Attorney’s office, the news release stated.
