BENTON, Mo. -- A Delta man was arrested on drug charges and two active warrants after police found him lying on the side of the road Wednesday near Oran, Missouri.

Curtis L. McBride, 32, is charged with felony possession of a controlled substance and misdemeanor unlawful use of drug paraphernalia.

McBride also had active "no bond" warrants from the U.S. Marshals Service and Missouri Probation and Parole.

Scott County Sheriff Rick Walter said the sheriff's department responded Wednesday to a report of two people lying on the side of the road on Highway 77 near Oran.

A deputy located and identified McBride.

The deputy was informed McBride had two felony warrants. McBride heard the radio traffic, walked away from the deputy and threw a plastic container on the ground.

The deputy secured McBride and picked the container up.

It contained two hypodermic needles.

Each needle contained a clear fluid, the sheriff said.

"McBride admitted the needles belonged to him. He said he was going to jail, so he threw the container on the ground," Walter said, adding McBride later gave a written statement admitting the needles and methamphetamine were his.

McBride was placed under arrest and transported to the Scott County Jail, where he was booked pending formal charges by the Scott County prosecuting attorney.

McBride remains in custody at the Scott County Jail. Bond was set at $25,000 cash or surety.
