SPRINGFIELD -- It's time for Illinoisans to apply for their landowner/tenant firearms deer hunting permits.

"February is the month to apply," says Illinois Department of Conservation director, Mark Frech. "Our office has mailed applications to every landowner/tenant who received a permit last year. They have until Feb. 28 to get the application back to our office."

Landowner permits are available to landowners, tenants and their immediate families who own or lease 40 or more acres of commercial agricultural land. the free landowner permit allows hunting only on their own property.

The fee for the paid permit is $15, and allows hunting throughout the county where the land is located.
