Crashes involving a deer and ATV were among the motor vehicle accidents involving Southeast Missouri residents over the Memorial Day weekend. According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Benny J. Crashes involving a deer and ATV were among the motor vehicle accidents involving Southeast Missouri residents over the Memorial Day weekend.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Benny J. Benavente, 22, of Jackson was driving a 1996 Ford westbound on Route K around 8:20 p.m. Friday when the vehicle stuck a deer. The accident occurred 3 miles west of Cape Girardeau and sent occupant Lindsey Moore, 17, of Jackson, to Southeast Missouri Hospital for treatment of moderate injuries.

Benavente was wearing his seat belt while Moore was not wearing a seat belt, the highway patrol said.

The following morning Debra A. Webb, 54, of Patton, Mo., was driving a 2001 Buick southbound on Highway 51 about 3 miles north of Patton when the vehicle ran off the roadway. Webb then over corrected and the vehicle overturned before coming to a rest on the roadway around 7:05 a.m.

Webb, who was wearing her seat belt, was treated for moderate injuries at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

And on Sunday afternoon James E. McCarthy, 52, of Zalma, Mo., sustained moderate injuries after he lost control of his 1982 Honda ATV. The vehicle then overturned around 3:20 p.m. on Route V, 2 miles south of Route C in Bollinger County.

McCarthy was treated at Saint Francis Medical Center.
