MARSTON, Mo. -- Contract negotiations are continuing between Noranda Aluminum plant officials and members of the United Steelworkers of America, but time is running out.
According to officials, contract negotiations began in July. The existing contract agreement will end Aug. 31.
"At Noranda, we deeply value our New Madrid associates, their families and the community. We currently are in negotiations with the union for a new collective bargaining agreement," said Frank Davis, plant manager, in a statement from the company.
Davis added, "the company is committed to work in good faith with the union leadership to secure a new agreement."
Cameron Redd, assistant chief steward for the United Steelworkers of America, declined to comment explaining that as part of the negotiations, the two sides had agreed not to make statements publicly.
The New Madrid Noranda plant, located in the St. Jude Industrial Park, employs more than 940 full-time employees in the production of aluminum products.
