Deadline approaching to get absentee ballot in Missouri

The deadline to request an absentee ballot by mail or fax for the Nov. 6 general election is Wednesday, according to a news release sent Friday by Secretary of State Robin Carnahan's office. To receive an absentee ballot by mail, eligible voters must complete an absentee ballot application online at www.sos.mo.gov/elections/goVoteMissouri/docs/absentee.pdf and mail or fax it to their local election authority. In Cape Girardeau County, the local election authority is located at the Cape Girardeau County Clerk's Office, 1 Barton Square, Jackson. Applications must be received by 5 p.m. Wednesday. First-time voters must provide a copy of their personal identification. Cape Girardeau County voters may vote absentee in person until 5 p.m. on Nov. 5 at the county clerk's office. Absentee ballots must be received by the county clerk's office no later than 7 p.m. on Nov. 6.

According to the release, registered Missouri voters are eligible to vote absentee if they are absent on election day, unable to physically vote due to illness or disability, prevented by religious beliefs, employed by an election authority other than where they are registered or incarcerated without the loss of voting qualifications.
