The United Way of Southeast Missouri and the Volunteer Intergenerational Center (VIC) are sponsoring the 2005 Days of Caring through Friday.
Annually this event promotes the business community to encourage volunteerism among their employees by assisting community agencies with volunteer projects.
Volunteers are taking time out of the day to help or organize a drive. This provides an opportunity for individuals to give back to the community and learn about how local agencies affect lives and the effect of donated dollars.
The Bank of Missouri, Nordenia, Nestle Purina, the Sinclair Broadcast Group, Missouri First Steps, Child Care Resource & Referral and the Department of Communication Disorders at Southeast Missouri State University all have volunteers working on community projects. Helping to build a house, painting and outside maintenance work, computer assistance, and hosting drives are among the services volunteers will provide.
Agencies providing projects include Lutheran Family and Children Services, Cape Area Family Resource Center, Safe House for Women, SEMO Alliance for Disability Independence, Court Appointed Special Advocates, First Call for Help, the Hoover Elder Center, Semo Network Against Sexual Violence and Habitat for Humanity.
For more information, contact the Volunteer Intergenerational Center at 335-7555 or the United Way of Southeast Missouri at 334-9634.
