Dashcam video shows burning-car rescue

BELTON, Mo. -- A Missouri State Highway Patrol trooper is winning praise after rescuing a driver from a burning car south of Kansas City.

The Kansas City Star reported part of the dramatic rescue was caught on dashcam video that was released this week.

Trooper Jim Thuss and an off-duty deputy are seen dragging 60-year-old Becky Crawford away from her car before flames engulfed the vehicle last week near Belton.

Moments earlier, Thuss had turned on his lights to stop a speeding vehicle before it ran a red light and smashed into Crawford's car. Thuss then rushed to Crawford's vehicle.

The victim's husband, Ron Crawford, said he's thanked Thuss for risking his life and called him a "genuine hero."

The driver who caused the crash fled and was arrested later.
