Thirty-two dancers from the Royale Ballet School of Performing Arts in Cape Girardeau recently won awards at a national competition and workshop in Nashville, Tenn.
Four students were awarded National Dance Scholarships. Winner of a Senior National Scholarship was Leigh Lindley, 20, of Cape Girardeau.
Junior National Scholarship winners were Christy Wong, 15, of Cairo, Ill.; Jennifer Jones, 14, of Cape Girardeau; and Heather Connell, 10, of McClure, Ill.
The competition was sponsored by the Tremaine-Sleight Studios in Los Angeles, Calif.
Three dance routines performed at the competition will also be performed at West Park Mall on Saturday. They are "True Love," a jazz routine called "Think About It," and the jazz number that received the highest score in the competition, "Girls With Attitude."
The Royale Ballet dancers are under the direction of Gaymarie Tomlinson.
Other girls competing were, from Cape Girardeau: Carter Adams, Emily Bolton, Allison Brune, Kim Crader, Sally Dickson, Davique Dumars, Jessie Fluegge, Tara Heisserer, Sarah Ladrieter, Laine Lindley, Tia Meyer, Morgan Miller, Jennifer Peters, Erin Seiberlich, Lauren Stephens, Sarah Stevens, Marisa Uzoaru and Kara Vogelsang.
Also competing were Jun Jun Allego of Perryville, Heather Banks of Jackson, Samantha Kladiva of Marble Hill, Erin Prince of Oak Ridge, and Mandy Boyd, Micheal Boyd and Brianna Womick of Anna, Ill.
