Single dad Joe would really like to make his children's Christmas special this year. He works hard to pay the bills and take care of three children, but doing it alone doesn't leave much left over to buy special toys.

His two sons, ages 3 and 4, are asking Santa for G.I. Joe and Transformer toys, while his 2-year-old daughter is already into Barbie and Barbie accessories.

She would also love a plush dog that comes in a purse. The boys would also love to have a bicycle and a tricycle.

Help Toybox this year and give joy to these children by bringing new toys to any of the Toybox locations, including The Southeast Missourian at 301 Broadway. Or make monetary donations to Toybox, P.O. Box 4, Cape Girardeau, MO 63702. Most-requested items include learning toys, Barbie dolls, Transformers, board games and Hannah Montana, Dora the Explorer and Spider-Man items.

Mr. G, a disabled veteran, was homeless until a recent donation allowed him to move into an apartment. His previous home had suffered structural damage and was condemned. With no family at all, Mr. G had to move to the streets until someone helped him.

He has no household items except a donated king-size mattress, which is in need of sheets, a blanket and a comforter.

He has several health issues including diabetes and could use a gift card for a local pharmacy. He could also use pots and pans, glass and silverware as well as diabetic shoes, size 12 and jeans size 34 x 32.

He has a small amount of VA disability, but he is in need of surgery soon and cannot afford to have it done.

You can help Mr. G and other needy elderly people in our area by buying these needed items, including grocery gift cards and personal grooming and cleaning supplies and delivering them to the Southeast Missourian, 301 Broadway.

Monetary donations can also be sent to Christmas for the Elderly, P.O. Box 4, Cape Girardeau, MO 63702.

All elderly served are living independently on limited incomes with few, if any, family members. They would greatly appreciate your sharing spirit.
