The public is invited to sign up for a historic cruise on the Grampa Woo yacht, recently available to the community through the Convention and Visitors Bureau for short cruises on the Mississippi River.
This Mississippi and Ohio River excursion commemorates the bicentennial of the Lewis and Clark expedition, with visits to forts, museums and homes in Southern Illinois, Southeast Missouri and Kentucky. Only 40 spots remain on the Sept. 24 to 26 trip beginning at St. Louis and ending at Cape Girardeau.
To help those on the trip experience the legacy of the Lewis and Clark adventures of 200 years ago, the George Drouillard Chapter, Missouri Lewis and Clark historian and author James M. Denny, Illinois Lewis and Clark historian Ken Hill and Captain William Clark and President Thomas Jefferson re-enactor Patrick Lee will be on board.
"Only on the river can you experience what Lewis and Clark must have seen and felt as they began the expedition west," said Jane Randol Jackson, Red House board member.
The group will visit the Red House Interpretive Center and attend the Red House fund-raising party Sept. 24.
A mini-cruise is also available. For information, call 651-0028.
