U.S. Rep. Bill Emerson announced that the federal crop insurance registration deadline will be extended through April 28.
As vice chairman of the House Agriculture Committee, Emerson had urged the Agriculture Department for a delay until the end of April. March 15 was the original enrollment deadline.
He called the change "much needed regulatory relief" for those who need to meet the deadline. The additional time also provides relief for county soil conservation and stabilization personnel and others, he said.
The Agriculture Department said the extension applies to price support and production adjustment program crops, including tobacco, rice, extra long staple cotton, upland cotton, feed grains, wheat, peanuts, oilseeds and sugar.
