BENTON, Mo. -- An apparent argument between a husband and wife ended in a shooting death and charges of murder this week.
The Scott County sheriff's office said Charity S. Carey, 27, of Morley, Mo., has been charged with first-degree murder and armed criminal action in the death of her 45-year-old husband.
Sheriff's Sgt. Jerry Bledsoe said officers had responded to a 911 call made at 9:30 a.m. on Monday by Charity Carey.
She told officers she had come home to their trailer home after work to find Michael E. Carey lying in a pool of blood with a head injury, Bledsoe said.
Carey had told the dispatcher she didn't think her husband was breathing, Bledsoe said.
After officers arrived, officers found the husband lying dead on the floor of the kitchen.
Officers reported Michael Carey had small caliber bullet wounds visible to the back of his head and in his chest.
The victim's wallet was on the floor next to him.
Officers also found signs of a struggle in the kitchen and living room areas were apparent, but no signs of someone breaking in were found.
Charity Carey is being held in the Scott County Jail on a $100,000 bond.
