Work on the East Deerwood Drive Bridge over Hubble Creek project starts with a formal groundbreaking at 11 a.m. Friday.

The ceremony, to which the public is invited, will be at the intersection of Deerwood Drive and North High Street (U.S. 61 North).

Penzel Construction Co. Inc. of Jackson won the contract for the work. The project, which will cost $419,520, includes the construction of a new bridge structure on East Deerwood Drive over Hubble Creek with approach pavements and a connecting roadway to North High Street (northbound U.S. 61), along with related storm sewer and utility structures.

The work is expected to finish by April 11.

Other work is also planned in the region. Missouri Department of Transportation road crews are scheduled to work on the following projects, weather permitting:

Cape Girardeau County

Work to remove a median crossover near the new East Main/LaSalle Avenue Interstate 55 interchange. Both the northbound and southbound lanes of I-55 will be reduced to one lane.

Stoddard County

Route ZZ will be reduced to one lane while MoDOT crews repair shoulders along the entire road. Expect altered traffic patterns from 7:30 a.m. Tuesday through 4 p.m. Friday.

Pemiscot County

I-55 will be reduced to one lane, starting at mile marker 20.7 and extending two miles, while concrete repairs are underway. The northbound lane will be restricted to a 14 feet during the work.

Closer to I-55's Exit 1 (Route O), drivers can expect one-lane traffic for one mile, with a width restriction of 18 feet.

Concrete repairs will also be underway on that segment of the highway.

The repairs start at 7:30 a.m. Tuesday and continue daily through 4:30 p.m. Friday.

Patching is the project causing Route Z to be reduced to one lane, between Route 412 to Route J. The one-day job will start at 7:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Route B, from Route 412 to Route A will be patched Tuesday. Expect traffic to be reduced to one lane between 10 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.
