The Cape Girardeau Conservation Nature Center, the Cape Girardeau Parks and Recreation Department and Jackson Parks and Recreation participated in "Bashin' Trash" on two recent weekends at Cape La Croix Creek in Cape Girardeau and Hubble Creek in Jackson City Park.

Creeks were divided into sections to assure efficiency.

At the Cape La Croix Creek event 133 people participated in picking up 89 bags of trash and 31 tires. At Jackson City Park 105 people worked at Hubble Creek, Goose Creek and Rocky Branch, resulting in 54 bags of trash and two tires.

Sara Turner, education specialist at the Nature Center, said some out of the ordinary items were collected, including a bed frame, stove top, DVD player and a car door.
