The driver of a Chevrolet Silverado ran a red light heading southeast on Kingshighway and collided with a semitrailer truck exiting Interstate 55 onto Kingshighway about 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, police said.

The driver of a Chevrolet Silverado ran a red light heading southeast on Kingshighway and collided with a semitrailer truck exiting Interstate 55 onto Kingshighway about 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, police said.

The front passenger-side section of the truck was smashed, revealing engine hoses dangling outside of a gash near the wheel. The Tom Beussink Excavating truck sustained damage to the driver-side fender. Cape Girardeau police officer Jason Angle said the driver of the Silverado suffered scrapes but refused medical treatment.

“He was lucky,” Angle said.

The driver of the semi-truck was uninjured, Angle said. The crash blocked the southeast-bound lane of Kingshighway until just after 9 a.m., when both damaged vehicles were towed away. Cape Girardeau firefighters also responded to the scene of the crash.
