Crash kills Cape Girardeau teenager

A single-vehicle crash claimed the life of a Cape Girardeau teenager Wednesday morning.

Christian D. Russell, 16, was driving a Chevrolet Cavalier near East Cape Rock Drive and Landis Drive when the car ran off the road, returned to the road, and ran off the road again, striking a tree before coming to rest against another tree, Cape Girardeau police reported.

Officers were called to the scene at 10:46 a.m.

Cape Girardeau County Coroner John Clifton pronounced Russell dead at the scene, police reported.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
