A three-year labor contract, signed between Craftsman Independent Union (CIU) and Fru-Con Construction Corp., is on the leading edge of interdependent labor management relationships, says Fred Kelley, president of CIU.
"This contract is very significant because we have advanced from one-year contracts to a three-year commitment," said Kelley. "The move exemplifies the faith that Fru-Con has in the union and displays a confidence in our capability to address current and future challenges."
Kelley said: "Our workers have been inspired by the trust shown them and are anxious to continue working with Fru-Con to provide the best construction solutions possible in our community."
In addition to all local Fru-Con construction work, one major project that will benefit from the recently-signed contract is Fru-Con's work for Procter and Gamble Paper Products Co., said Kelley.
The CIU and Fru-Con have continuously worked together since 1984 on one-year contracts, he said. Fru-Con has provided general contracting and construction management services to the Cape Girardeau area since 1968.
During the nine years the union has been affiliated with Fru-Con, there have been no strikes, slowdowns, or jurisdictional disputes, Kelley said. "The CIU attributes this to its training programs, veteran crafts people and open communication policies.
"The Craftsmen Independent Union is proud to be a part of a team that is helping local Cape Girardeau manufacturers be more competitive," said Kelley. "The CIU is proud to be a part of the `Made In The USA' label."
