CAPE GIRARDEAU - Julia Cowsert, 2501 Tulip Lane, has been appointed to the Cape Girardeau Teen Activity Council Board of Directors.

Cowsert said she hopes the council will be able to provide some healthy entertainment for youth in Cape Girardeau and provide places to socialize other than parking lots along Broadway.

"My entire adult life has centered around youth-related issues, and that is the main reason I'm interested in the Teen Activity Council," said Cowsert.

"Today's youth hold the keys to the future, and keys are useless when there are no doors to open. The Teen Activity Council is a step in the right direction toward providing those doors."

Cowsert is a youth counselor for East Missouri Action Agency and serves as a member of the Missouri Division of Youth Services Advisory Board, the Interagency Coordinating Council, and on State Rep. Mary Kasten's Task Force for Youth Related Issues.

She is active with the Jaycees, represents East Missouri Action in the Chamber of Commerce, is a youth sponsor for her church, and a pastoral care volunteer at Southeast Hospital.

The Teen Activity Council Board of Directors is planning a youth lock-in for early spring.
