The Cape Girardeau County Commission has OK'd the county's participation in the Back to School sales tax holiday, which begins at 12:01 a.m. the first Friday in August and ends at midnight the following Sunday. This year, that weekend falls on Aug. 7 through Aug. 9.
During those days, the county's 1 percent sales tax will be waived on purchases of back-to-school items such as computers, clothing and school supplies. State statutes list items that fall under the tax exemption. The state also will waive its 4.225 percent tax during that weekend.
