The Cape Girardeau County Archives Center was recently awarded a local records preservation grant for $2,800 to index county court records dating from 1824 to 1833.
These records include Revolutionary War soldier pension applications.
The local records preservation program, established in 1991, supports local public records management and preservation and has awarded nearly $5 million since its inception.
Grants provide funding up to a maximum of 70 percent of the total project cost.
A total of $373,246 was awarded to 54 counties, municipalities and school districts for the 2006 fiscal year. Local governments and political subdivisions with taxing authority are eligible for the competitive grant program.
The Cape Girardeau County Archives Center is at 112 E. Washington St. in Jackson.
