JACKSON -- The Farm Bureau of Cape Girardeau County will be hosting its annual meeting Friday at 6:30 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Jackson.
The annual meeting consists of an election of the Board of Directors and entertainment. Derry Brownfield of Brownfield Network will be the featured speaker.
Brownfield is a farmer, a broadcaster and has attended the college of Agriculture and the University of Missouri. He taught vocational agriculture several years before going to work as a marketing specialist with the Missouri Department of Agriculture. He served as director of the Kansas City Livestock Market Foundation at the Kansas City Stockyards prior to establishing himself in farm broadcasting.
In 1972, Brownfield and his partner established the Brownfield Network, which now serves 150 radio stations throughout the Midwest with farm news and market information.
Brownfield started farming when he was 16 years old and received the Future Farmers of America State Farmer degree in 1949. Since that time, the Brownfield farm has grown to 1,100 acres maintaining a herd of approximately 200 registered Charolais cows.
