Cape Girardeau County is now seeking proposals for outdoor sirens commissioners hope will add to the area's awareness of emergency situations.
Commissioners on Monday approved advertising for proposals for the sirens. A pre-proposal meeting will be at 10:30 a.m. Oct. 23, and the county is requesting proposals be submitted by 4 p.m. Nov. 13. Requests for proposals are available in the county clerk's office.
The towns and villages of Burfordville, Daisy, Delta, Dutchtown, Egypt Mills, Friedheim, Fruitland, Gordonville, Millersville, New Wells, Oak Ridge, Old Appleton, Oriole, Pocahontas, Randles, Shawneetown, Tilsit and Whitewater could receive warning sirens, funded by a federal emergency management grant and community contributions. Commissioners hope to have the new sirens in place by October 2014 at the latest.
The commission also approved a bid for grading on County Road 425. Steve's Hauling and Excavating of Oak Ridge was awarded contract on the project for the lowest bid of $50,678.
The parks department will buy 100 white folding chairs that will be available for event rental at Cape County Park. In a memo to commissioners, the park superintendent said the county would have no problem recovering the $940 cost of the chairs because of the high number of weddings at the parks. The chairs will rent for $1 each.
