County, city receive archive grants
Cape Girardeau County and the city of Cape Girardeau both received grants Monday to promote the preservation of archived records. The county will receive $3,203 from the Local Records Preservation Grants from the Missouri Secretary of State's office. The county will receive $3,203 from the Local Records Preservation Grants from the Missouri Secretary of State's office. The money will be used for a ladder in the archive center and to pay for contract personnel to index the archive's court records from 1847 to 1854.

Cape Girardeau will receive $15,977 to microfilm permanent records, purchase a microfilm reader and scanner and work on records storage renovation.
The grants were announced by Secretary of State Robin Carnahan. The grants are funded by user fees collected in county Recorder of Deeds offices.
