Cape Girardeau County commissioners on Thursday approved allowing the highway department to purchase two new road graders with funds from this year's road and bridge budget on the condition the equipment would be part of a buyback agreement.
Highway department administrator Scott Bechtold proposed the county buy the graders for $418,804 and trade in two graders the county owns now to receive a $248,950 credit against the purchase. Commissioners approved paying up to $170,000 toward the remainder of the cost.
The graders, which will be bought from Fabick Cat in Scott City, come with a buyback agreement attached to the purchase that will allow the county to sell them back to the vendor in five years for at least $310,000.
